  • Odometer issue

Ok I have had my z for about 8 years now any the odometer has never worked. I rebuilt the engine about 2 months ago and would like to get it working. I swapped the odometer from a working cluster yesterday and it worked for about a mile then quit. I see it's a bipolar stepper motor. Has anyone had or seen any issues like this? Where should I look to resolve the problem?
    Thanks!

Yes. Mpg and dist to empty also work. I also hear a clicking from the odometer. Last one also had a click to it. So it's in the same dash with odo replaced

+2 on the odometer winter project.

Problem is its the daily driver so I cann't have it down for more than a weekend at a time.

          Its an 86 GLL.

I've got all gauges working except the odometer.

Last winter I replaced the stepper motor that runs it and still no go.

flatfoot did you ever get this resolved? I'm having a very similar problem and wondered what you ended up having to do?

I had a similar issue with my JDM's odometer.

Turned out to be warped gears for the trips. The trips are connected to the ODO gearing. If one of the 12 gears for the trip recorder gets jammed, the whole setup stops.
You can take it all apart and replace the gears from a donor cluster. Thats what I did. Works great now.

I haven't had time to mess with the odometer.

I've got more important things to do like change all the fluids and pay for the latest speeding ticket.
