  • 88 engine in a 84?

    Im getting a 84 turbo and was wondering besides the turbo size will the 88 turbo engine be a direct bolt on?

    No, different ECU's
    85 Z31 6.0 LSX turbo 766whp/792wtq
    04 GTO, LS6, big cam, porting, N20... underway for summertime daily driver.

      You're talking about putting an 88 engine into an 84 body, right?

      The only issues I ran into were:
      -the wiring to the starter solenoid has a different style connector. Cut and splice.
      -the crank pulley has different accessory drive belts (ribbed) for PS and AC. You will need to swap the accessories as well.
      -the late 30A turbo transmission's crossmember won't line up with the body mounting holes on early cars, you have to slot it.

      You should use the engine wiring harness form the 84 if you can, otherwise you will have to re-pin the 88 harness connector to use in the 84 body.
