  • Shift Knob Removal

Hmm, I wonder why they would be different, but show the same part #?

Anyway, on a side note, anybody know how to get my shiftknob off of the shifter without F*cking it up? It is the original in very good shape, but according to Nissan PDC, no one has the knob anymore (retails for like $35), but it will not come off period. Car has the T-5. When I took the tranny out, I had to take the shifter with the shift boot, knob, and aluminum trim piece all out together.

To get the knob off you can wrap in in a towel or some other sort of padding and get a pipe wrench on it, won't hurt the knob. Or, what I did is to pop off the shift pattern cap and drill a few small holes down through the rubber till you hit metal. Then fill with your penetrant of choice and repeat a few times and it should come off easily. Replace cap and no visible damage done.

Is the cap glued in or snapped in? If glued, choice of glue?

Craftsman strap wrench works real well and won't scar the shift knob.

Yup .. works great ... you still might want to wrap it in a towel ..
