  • oil cooler question!

ok so i bought a nice Unit and was very excited to install it, then a friend shattered my dreams of doing it by saying i would need a high flow oil pump for it to make enough pressure for the oil to travel through!

    can anyone elaborate on this!
should i bite the bullet and get a New oil pump?, the engine is not in the car right now!

or can teh stock oil pump provide me with enough pressure to flow the oil through the cooler and back!

here are some specs to my cooler kit!
    19 Rows ,10" x 5 1/2" x 2" Core an Overall measurements 11 1/4" x 5 1/2" x 2" , has -10AN fittings
Braided Stainless Steel Hoses, 7/8" OD (Outside Diamater),

You don't need a "bigger" oil pump. That oil cooler will work just fine.

Our oil pump has plenty of pressure and volume to move the oil through a good cooler (of which those crossflow style have minimal pressure drop).

Its funny how people will give you advice that only pertain to other cars. Like for example, its really hard for me to have a good conversation about my Z project with some Non-Z owner. They'll start telling you "No you cant do that until you upgrade your crank" Or "Nope, your head gasket will blow if you put that turbo on there" or "you cant take more than 8psi boost, sorry but your motor sucks" or sometimes they'll just laugh in my face when I tell them I can get around 220 HP with a stock VG30ET just by adding a boost controller.
Try telling them about the numbers people achieve with an NA 2 Turbo setup and see what you'll get too
So at some point, you'll learn to keep it to yourself and only talk about this stuff with us Z guys. Us Z dudes live in a different plane.
        Good luck!

I think the bigger prob is that the domestics spec the lowest common denominator parts for everything, with loose tolerances and marginal durability

nissan and the other jappos for the most part over-spec stuff, and the quality of manufacture was top-notch, and that's not counting the excellent bearings and seals

every part has it's limits, ours are just unreasonably high

Puts a new meaning to when those domestic guys say "cheapo japonese cars"

honestly I think the koreans have surpassed the domestics already

Dan @ TSS sells a better oil cooler than that, for around the same price aswell and it also has it's own little fan on it so it can be mounted anywhere.

plus it comes with a remote oil filter setup.
It may not be a Z, but it's still got a turbo...

my kit comes with a remote oil filter setup as well!

anyways i think i ran into a huge problem today! my engine block already had a oil cooler on it before and so i took the relocation block apart and i have nothing to thread my adapter to!

does anyone know if oil filter adapter from a car without an oil cooler can be removed from the engine?
so far i cant seem to find anything to plug off the old oil lines!

I'm also interested to know this as I want to remove my stock oil cooler for the moment as it's leaking. I remember G.E saying that the threaded tube might not come off the relocation block, and that one might be needed from a car without an oil cooler but it would be nice if someone could confirm exactly how to go about doing this.
