  • Walbro 255 and SAFC

    Alright guys i have a 1987 nissan maxima , With a VG30E with a 300zx ecu.

Im wondering what all would i have to upgrade to use a walbro 255 pump .

Also im wondering if a Safc " looking to buy one from ebay " is worth the around 100 bucks i would be spending on it.

Since im looking to squeeze a few more ponies out of the VG , And a friend told me i would have to upgrade to a wideband o2 sensor ( Is this true? ) .

sorry if none of this makes since im sick...

Yeah I was told the exact same thing, it's wrong. The stock FPR will work just fine with that pump...

And what about the Safc i wanted to squzee a few more ponys out of my fuel setup/engine.

Every things basicly stock right now except , Opened up the intake manifold , cold air intake , 240sx throttle body , 300zx ecu , and maf.

could i see any gains by getting a safc?

You definately will IF (being the operative word) it's tuned properly by someone with at least some experience using them or someone who has done alot of homework about them and is confident in their ability to do it right. Alot of people dont like them because they basically fool the stock computer into seeing more/less air than really exists and compensates with more/less fuel. No doubt it's not as good as a true standalone ecu but it's better than nothing to get your mixture balanced better than what the stock computer can handle with modifications and increases boost.

I've got one still in it's box brand new I haven't installed yet. I'm getting a friend with experience in tuning and installing them to do mine personally, and it's only until I can afford the $2k I'll need for the standalone ecu I want!

What's the point of spending $300 on a SAFC when you can do nistune for the same cost or less and it actually lets you tune the car, as opposed to just feeding a false maf signal to accomplish a change?

Why do you need a bigger pump? If your pump is ok I see no need to go to the expense and trouble for a bigger pump.

Well i plan on going turbo in a few months and i wanted to get ready , And i thought it would be wise to upgrade when the stock pump is at 253k miles ?

and it was only 97 shipped to my front door.

There's nothing wrong with upgrading the fuel pump in an NA, the fuel pump in a turbo and an NA are exactly the same anyway... It's better to spend $99 on a walbro vs the hundreds it costs for a replacement oem fuel pump.

^ If it isn't broke, then that $99 is better spent elsewhere.

But since he does plan on boost, then it is a nessesary upgrade.

and i think the pump is the reason why my car wont stay started and when its started you can hear a loud screaching and its running really band and sputtering bad.

You can get rid of the screaching by tightening the belts.

OK I was just asking. I would never condone stock replacement when a "better" upgrade was available for same or less money.
