      It is just too hard to diagnose without seeing the car. My advice is to thoughly check the car before spending money on parts you might not need.
      Yup, check timing with a light, check valve timing by the T-belt and pullies, check compression with a tester, check fuel pressure. This should all be done when you buy a new used car anyways so you know what issues need to be addressed right away.
