  • calling all NA 2 T guys!

ok well turbo conversion is all done except for the fact that the engine will not start!
here is where i am at!
87 NT with an 84T engine and 84T ecu!
    i have fuel pressure
    i have spark
im 100% sure that the timing belt is correct
even tried moving the ditributor both ways, i tooth ata time

im wondering is there any difference between the NA and T engine harness! Also from the 87 harness to the84 engine was there any change in the fuell injectors wires?
there is also some back firing while is cranking over!

any input would be greatly appreciated!!

Are the injectors firing? Maybe try moving dist 180 degrees. Double check electrical connections and fusable links.

with the ignition ON, you can turn the distributer back and forth and hear the injectors fire.

The only differences that you should run into as far as wiring goes is the alternator harness being on the drivers side on an 84-86 NA, where everything else has it on the passenger side. Also, on the AAC/FICD connector, the NA has it as one large 4 prong connector, the turbo has it as two dual prong connectors.

If you want to figure out if you're getting fuel into the cylinders or not, try spraying some fo that quick start stuff ( forgot exact name ) into the intake and see if it tries to start with that. If it does, you probably have a fuel problem..

If you have spark then you can assume the ECU and related electronics are working. In my experience, the injector connector terminals on the wiring harness will get corroded and not make good contact.

            To check for fuel signal/supply:
-Use a multimeter with pulsewidth monitoring ability.
-Put a large screwdriver down onto the injector body and your ear on the other end. Have someone else turn the engine over while you listen to each injector. You will hear a distinct click every time the injector fires.
-Pull a spark plug and see if it's wet with fuel after cranking.
            -Last resort: starting fluid

If you're not done checking for incorrect timing try putting the engine at TDC and try setting the dist according to the picture in the haynes manual, if it does not start flip it 180 degrees...

If you re wired your idle air control like you were supposed to, check your wiring again. Mine was grounding out causing the fuel pump not to get enough power.

                ok guys
took the distributor out for the 6th time
set it TDC, placed the distributor back in, and voila it started
it runs rough, i seem have a few leaks on the intake
but it ran under its own power

i must have made an error somewhere along the line
this is like the 5th motor i have put into a zed, and this was the first time it happened

just want to say thanks to those that helped
                pics are comming soon
