Beast84 wrote: So um Any suggestions for low budget high power car setup? just want to know what parts and from where. not how to install or anything I like to figure that out on my own for the most part. In fact for me thats where all the fun is.
Can some of u Z gurus tell me ur setups? Another reason I want to be able to mod this car without costing an arm and a leg is that now that I graduated highschool Ive decided what I really want to do is an auto mechanic but mostly towards performance cars. The Z will be a great learning field for me but i dont want to go through the Trial and error prosess that i went through with my honda. Its expensive to waste money on the wrong parts.
In the last two days Ive spent probably around 7 hours reading these forums and some of the links. The information provided couldnt be more detailed ITS GREAT!
    http://www.redz31.com/turbofaq/dyno.graphs.html
It doesnt show any dynographs of Z's with Holset setups unfortunately.
Oh and there's jason's newest site VG30ET.com aswell.

After you're finished drooling, read everything here before you ask questions.

Actually, just read Jason's site in it's entirety...it's good for you.

Believe me Ive read Jason's Turbo Faq page more than twice at least up to the point where you build engine for beyond 400RWHP ITS LIKE A Z31 BIBLE! I also have been looking at the setups on the dyno charts and I must say Iam aiming for a setup like mike84T's or Stinky's exept instead of the T3 on stinky's a T3/T04s 60-1 (correct me if Iam wrong but isnt that the best of both worlds when it comes to spool and at the same time a ton of power keep in mind for the time being iam only aiming for like 300-350ish HP) Also Iam considering either the conquest intercooler which i found for under 100$ used but in good working condition (according to the seller) or a Buick grand nationals for about 100$. I have a freind who specializes in custom exhaust (its his job) So he knows whats best for flow and will help me out at his shop with the mendrel bends. For Fuel pump Ill stick to the Walboro 255lph HP Pump. KnN Cone filter, Jim Wolf 3Bar seams to be a popular choice for Engine management .GReddy Profec B / Profec B SpecII Boost Controller also seams like a reasonable choice.
this is what I think would work from what ive read but I still feel like Iam skimming the surface on what i know about this car .

Do you know how to read and utilize compressor maps yet?

                Touch BRO

Some of the wealthiest people I know drive the most modest cars bro...lol.

I'm sure many of us here know how to spend 10K+ just building a VG engine(cyro treated, custom crank etc.) Who's sig says...Performance Isn't Cheap, Reliable Performance costs even more(something to that effect). LMAO. Their's so much truth to that sig it hurts me!

IMVHO and IME the ultimate VG Budget Build is finding a good ole Z with the VG30ET with relatively low mileage(the name of the site..lol). Make sure the turbo manifold isn't shite, spend the money to have HPC coat said manifold, test the compression. Upgrade to a Holset turbo, add larger cams, larger injectors and a HIgh VOlume Oil pump(I'd reco Toga)run Mobil 1 Full synthetic and upgrade the exhaust or have a muffler shop make a cheaper custom one. TUNE IT PROPERLY and run 93+ octane fuel.

ALso their's the HUGE issue of the dark art that is fuel/engine manegment. I've heard great things about this AEM systems(can't think of the models) and this Greeedy Sytemhttp://www.injectedperformance.com ... 658&VID=79.

JWT makes great stuff but they're overpriced as sin and their ECU is just a shelf tune with allot of room for error. For less then the price of a JWT Shelf tuned 2 or 4 Bar ecu, you can have a middle of the road Fuel/engine manegment system with almost infinite programability.

If your rich, you buy The TecIII stand alone.

EDIT - You'll need an upgraded Fuel Pump too($100 for a Walbro on feebay). Also, the stock Plenum is a serious POS and bottleneck. You'll need to upgarde to one of the aftermarket custom plenums or @ the least *gut* yours.

GOod LUck. Everything I've just said as for the rest of the posters can be found here and abroad if your willing to read.
                Ucked Fup!!!

Ok well I will have about 9K to my disposal but i want to save at least half and the rest possibly spend on the Z however my tools and equipement are limited it will cost me some good amount of money getting things welded cut and so on. like i stated erlier i want a car that can push about 350 rwhp and still safe to drive around every day so the way i look at it Iam looking at 4k the most in engine upgrades including fuel injectors, fuel pump ,ic, t3/t04 60-1 turbo built from stock turbine housing, bov, piping, exhaust , posibly external wastegate or modified internal, afco radiator, greddy boost controller the 300$ one, pathfinder plenum, boost gauges, custom manifold maybe. and possibly the ecu fuel management made from retards because i have no clue when it comes to ecus just the hardware.
Now if there is an actual functioning link that can at least teach me some basics on ecu opperation I would really appreciate it if someone linked it.

Here's a basic overview of what an ECU is and does.

Now read this...when it tells you to read something before going on...do it.

Side note: I wouldnt mess with anything else other than Nistune...thats just my opinion.

Just like Babydude is trying to tell you....
                      Read....BE PATIENT with your hopes.

Tell yourself that in 12 months you're gonna build a killer car.

*I say this because there's so much for you to learn and alot of wasted money can be the result of "I need this" or "This other guy..."

~Reputition of mods is the key to a proper build. I'm not saying that there's 1 turbo, and 1 intercooler, etc....that you should buy and do up...I'm simply stating that it isn't as easy as it can be read. Look for the majority vote with modifications if wanting to go about it wisely.

My most important advise is to be patient with you goals and Read, read, read. After a few months of surfing...you'll have one hell of a "Bible" put to gether for referencing and you'll have a very good understanding of what you specific car needs to get you where you want to be.

The way you are attacking your goals right now is going to end up leaving you broke, or with a bunch a parts that are not working together like they could.(realize I am typing this in the simplest terms I can think of so you can grasp this concept I am shoving your way)

                      I am here to help...

If you are going to stick with modding cars for a long time(possibly as a career) this is gonna hurt off the bat but you should DEFFINATLY GET A TIG WELDER AND LEARN ON YOUR OWN!!!!!!!!!!! bout 1100-1400 for a new decent one but its worth its weight in gold, ESPECIALY if you know how to use it!!!!!! I'm damn sure just about anyone here would buy one if they had that money sitting around.
