    Maybe you already know, but...

There is a product on the market called NightShades which is used for "blacking out" the lenses of taillights, turn signals or marker lights. Its manufactured by VHT, and can be found on Summitracing.com for like $9 a can. Its a type of spray tint coating that blacks out the lenses. I have considered it for my White Z a few times, but i havn't got around to trying it out. I just dont know if its the right look for my car.
Anyways heres a few links to other forums where people have already discussed this product:

These arent the best discussions, but its all i had time for.

even from the crappy pic black dragon auto has the lenses look pretty crappy. to me you can easily tell they are merely lenses placed on top. That spray stuff looks surprisingly good!

It seems like a translucent paint or something of the equivelent. I would bet window tint is more resilent.

yeah i know it looked awful, i wanted to see real world pics to see it in all its hideousness.

I dont think it would work well on glass windows. It seems to be designed primarily for use on plastic lenses. Maybe you could ask VHT?
              Phone: 480.991.3137 xt.5000
              Email: mailto:sales@pjhbrands.com
My idea for the stuff was this:
              1. Tint all 4 "marker" lights black
              2. Tint front turn signals black
              3. Remove tail lights, mask off lenses and tint turn signal portion and reverse lights
              4. Tint license plate lights black.

Let me know what you find out

              Thanks

BTW I just realized that VHT is actually a division of PJ1. Note that If/when you call or email them.

Meh, dont tint your windows with that crap. That's way ghetto, your windows will be all cloudy and you'll never get it off again.

If its for plastics, I'm betting it's a dye since VHT makes dyes for interiors which works great by the way. I ordered some last year and I can now buy any color Z interior paneling and convert it to black so it will fit my interior. So I bet this stuff just stains the plastic like their other dyes. If it is, then if it gets on glass or metal, it will just wipe off.

I second ( or third?) the VHT Nightshade, I'm using it on my taillights, and probably the sidemarkers as well... It's not a dye, it's more like a smoke clearcoat. Give it 2-3 thin coats (the stuff is very thin), then a couple coats with a true clearcoat. Let it sit for a day, then use some sort of fine grit polishing compound or a 2000 grit wetsand, then give it a good wax.

You won't find, someone using the blackout kit from the link you posted. It looks too shittastic for even the most ricer of the Z31 owners.

so with this paint you paint the OUTSIDE of the taillights?
and mask off the portions you dont want painted?
