My buddy's wouldn't come off either (86 turbo GLL) so I used my muscle. The rubber/outer portion came off with my brute force. The rest only came off with the use of vice grip pliers.

Some of them stick on there VERY well from 20+ years of being installed.

The shifter thread is not always the same, it seems to vary. I know the NA shifters have a ~2mm smaller rod at the end.

                Ummm...ok???

Ive pulled off a few...my cars and bone-yard cars...they all were threaded tops. Channel locks or vice grips will probably be needed on most.

As Jason said, 20+ years can make things a bit resistant to removal.

It appears that the price has gone up on those. Here is the Nissan part number & price from Scottsdale Infiniti.

damn, that sucks. Still cheaper than most sparco, momo, etc shift knobs though. Ty for the part #, I'll be joining the ae maxima knob crowd here soon.

As I said before. A generic knob that fits your personal preferences will be about $20. If you don't like it then take it back and exchange it.

I'm going to try and find one of the heavy aluminum knobs, those make shifting a little more fun/smoother =)
