My buddy's wouldn't come off either (86 turbo GLL) so I used my muscle. The rubber/outer portion came off with my brute force. The rest only came off with the use of vice grip pliers.

Ive pulled off a few...my cars and bone-yard cars...they all were threaded tops. Channel locks or vice grips will probably be needed on most.
As Jason said, 20+ years can make things a bit resistant to removal. :shock:Just stand back and throw money.

As I said before. A generic knob that fits your personal preferences will be about $20. If you don't like it then take it back and exchange it. :shock:Just stand back and throw money.
