  • Headlight Covers Pic Request + questions

For all those that have the clear or tinted headlight covers, can you please post pics?
Also I'm curious if you could shed some light as to how it is mounted and if there is any seals around it?

I don't have the clear or tinted headlight cover .. but installation is typically accomplished in (2) two ways.

    1. Small "L" shaped tabs are placed on the "inside" of the headlight nacelle with 3M tape adhesive. Think "upside down L". The headlight cover rests on the "flat" portion - like a table top. The headlight cover rests on "velcro".

Caution must be used if using this method in HOT climates as the extended heat (say during summers) tends to weaken the adhesive properties and time can wear out the velcro ..

    2. The 2nd method is the same as the 1st with the exception of the "L" brackets and the headlight covers are attached via "nut-n-bolt" or "screws".

I have the metal louvres and they are bolted down to the bottom portion of the head light nacelle.

Do you know if the covers are sealed in with a gasket or something?

There's a rubber lining that attaches to the covers, but it does not completely seal the headlights.

Heres a pic of my car before I got rid of the covers...

I've seen (?) the covers installed both with/without the rubber seal. Like RedBeauty84ZX posted .. it doesn't seal out the elements, it's more of a seal to minimize wear via the headlight cover from road vibrations.

There is a rubber seal around the covers, but water can still get behind them when you wash the car, not so much from driving in the rain though.

Mine are mounted to the front bumper cover (inside the headlamp "bucket" area) with the supplied "L" brackets and fastners.

Heres a picture of clear on a black car....most of you have probably seen this:

That is definately one of my favorites Z31's...

It seems to be that it would be best to make sure they are removable (screw and bolt method) so that you could remove the covers for cleaning/drying.

Does anyone have pictures of what the covers look like with the headlights in the up position?

Well here's the thing. I'm looking to make these for myself.
At this point in time, I have the ability to make alot of them too.
I have an 86 so I can make them for first gen's. But if anyone wants them
for the 87-89, you need to send me detailed measurements, or better yet, send me a
                trace of an existing one.

My 86 300ZX had these headlight cover on the car when I bought it. Tonight I had to have my car towed home for the first time and the AAA guy used the cover as a prop and broke it. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement? It is a smoked colored one on the right front. Thanks

I'd be surprised if you could find "only 1" at any retail establishement, as they are typically sold in pairs.
MSA ($40/pair - SALE) or eBay is probably your best bet in finding a set.

Thanks...I figured I'd probably have to buy a set. I just needed to know if they still made them and where to look! Thanks again!
