Anybody done it? I know Racingzx on the old board put the flares on his '87. I'm looking for tips on any mods/fabrication to put the rear flares on my '86 2+2

Uh, dude, I know that, I've got an '86 and have probably been driving Z's since you were shittin' yellow. It can be/has been done, check out Racingzx's '87 on the old board or the 2006 Z31 calendar. I'm asking for advice/info from those who know. Leave the flaming to those who are worthy, I'll take shit from Bum all day long, but not from a noob.

I had a set of AE flares years ago and looked at using them on a 87. Basically, you would need to hack the crap out of your body, then custom mold them in with fiberglass, all for an additional 1". Not worth it.
My advice would be to buy some better fitting and wider wheels and tires.
Thanks, Bum. Think you might have meant to say narrower wheels & tires? Originally bought the wheels (from a guy in Tokyo) for an '86 NA but am now going to buy an '86T. Fronts (7.5x17 -1; 235/45/17) should work fine by my calculation, rears (8.5x 17 -1, 255/45/17) look like they'll stick out past the fenders because of the extra 10mm offset on the turbo car (they were dead flush on the NA).
I'm really hoping Racingzx or Dan ex-from TSS are lurking and can respond. Dan once told me he helped Racingzx with the install, which included some trimming of the flares and urethane. I can do the work, just looking for tips that will help it go smoothly.

No, he didn't mean narrower. He meant wider. If you get proper fitting wheels with correct offset/backspacing then you can easily run wider than an 8.5" wheel in the back. Especially on 86-89 which already have wider fenders than the earlier years.
What the hell are you talking about? The turbos don't have an extra 10mm offset. That was the 87-89 suspension. How wheels fit on the 86NA is exactly how they'll fit on the 86T. The only difference is the fronts. If they were damn close to rubbing the NA housings, they will probably rub the turbo housings since the turbo housings are slightly thicker.
I know the suspension differences. I was talking about the fact that stock '86 T wheels are +20, NA's +10. That tells me that the -1 offset will push out 10mm more on a turbo car than they do on my NA.

Yes, they do. However, you need to get some compatible sideskirts, or the forward part of the flare ends very abruptly, as it is formed to continue it's line along with the AE/86 side skirt.
