  • Been painting the 84T with a roller . . .

For paint I'm using Rust'O'Leum oil based paint.

To apply the paint I'm using a high density foam roller for the big areas, a foam brush for the hard to reach areas, and LOTs of paint thinner and mineral spirits to thin the paint out to the consistency of a little thicker than water.

For the sanding department, I'm using 500 to 800 grit sanding in between coats, 1500 to 2000 grit for final sanding, and then polishing compound to finish it off. Have to wait a month for the paint to dry rock hard before I can apply the wax.

I've been also considering the applying the oil-based clear coat available from Rust'0'Leum to bring out even more of the "bling"

Ok, I've got the lower black portion done, now it's on to the upper silver part.

    Upside:
Cheap ~$50 from start to finish. Plus, I'm removing all the trim in order to make the paint job look seemless.

    Downside:
LOTS, LOTS, and LOTS of patience, sanding, painting. Each coat takes 24 hours to dry. Should take a total of two months to finish.

Looks pretty nice. What type of paint are you using that will put up with the sanding, outside elements, etc.?

It's really weird because I come on here everyday and this is the first time I saw this. I've been relying on the check marks showing me new threads and responses. Now this has confirmed I cannot rely on them. I'm gonna go and comb through this site for a few hours trying to find posts I've never seen.

Raidon, can you post the pic again? I'm very interested. I cant find the link at the moment but I was looking at another forum talking about roll on paint jobs using a type of Rustoleum Paint. It looked awesome! I plan on doing that in a few years when I buy myself a beater Z.

I believe there is a bug in the phpbb software because the same thing happens to me all the time on different forums using phpbb. I could be looking at posts and all of a sudden, the unread post icons gets cleared on the entire forum. The only way to be sure to read each post is to look at the date and times and determine if they are newer than the last time you looked. Pain in the ass if you ask me.
Restore it, Don't crush it. They don't make them like this anymore.

I know... I'm sure it's a bug of some kind because it has been happening to me. Sometimes old posts get flagged as new also.

More pics to come once I finish each panel.

where did you learn about doing that? Was it from that forum that I'm talking about?
I believe it was some sort of Muscle Car forum. For the life of me I can't remember the link.
It has lots of pictures, and ever since then I've been planning on doing the same. I'm pleasantly surprised to see someone doing this
to their Z. It's more work but atleast it's cheaper than buying all the spray equipment in my opinion, and the prep
and setup for spraying...to me that is why this is appealing. Plus it's will be easier to maintain.
Any more pics would greatly be appreciated Raidon!

i've been doing this to my car.

i'm about half way done. it takes a little while to dry.

i found a 50/50 mix of paint and mineral spirits works the best. the hardest part is removing all the trim so it looks right.
