How does everyone get these suckers off when they go to the junkyard? Getting to plenums makes removing these mandatory, ugh. I tried using a hammer and an impact driver, and broke two bits that way. Cute.

Do you mean the plate with "3000" on it?

You could use a hammer to shatter it to access the bolts underneath.

i take a screw driver. then i pound on the screw driver while its on the screw. it warms up the screw and then you can usually get them to come out. if not, the head will snap.

Yeah, for some reason Nissan felt it important to locktite them. Just use an impact wrench.

Impact driver; and I usually find myself stripping them and then drilling them out if I want the collector cover in one peice. I have like 8 of those things now...

            Am I understanding this right?
People have problems removing collector cover plates?
I've never ever had any problems and I've removed many.
As long as you have the correct sized phillips they will unscrew
with a good twist of the wrist and thats it.
If your screw driver is too small then you will start rounding
the screws and THEN you will have problems
Maybe I'm just misunderstanding....breaking the collector plate? Jesus Sanchez ombre....

I've removed 5 covers so far.... and using the correct phillips #3 I found the least breakage occurs if you first hammer it in, then try to twist as hard as you can while leaning on it so it has sufficient downward force to prevent rounding.... it usually won't turn the first time, so repeat the hammer and twist until it either comes out or snaps, so far I'm averaging ~1.4 broken per cover

Hey everyone, thanks for the tips. The cover is on a vg30 maxima at the junkyard in not so hot shape. It's hard to get a very good angle on it as the engine is leaning back. But we did try an impact driver like I said and broke both philips tips. I don't care if I have to break the cover, I want the plenum to play with...

if the impact screwdriver didn't work, what makes you think they are in good enough shape to be taken out by hand?

Terrible idea putting those wheels on...

Uh, more constant torque? Kind of like the bolts that won't budge with an air powered impact wrench, but will come out with a cheater bar and a little bit of strength.

seemed like the only way mine came out when i had the red Z was with the impact screwdriver, heat, and a heavy hammer.

alternately .... you can use penetrating oil and a propane torch, heat the screw and spray with lube, let it cool down, repeat
