  • Can a 1987-1989 clutch be put on 1986 300zx?

Hi everyone, So my clutch is shot but i have found a real Exedy clutch i want to get but its for a turbo 1987-1989 300zx and i have a 1986 NA2T. I know theirs a 240mm clutch for 1987 and below and 250mm for 1987 and above if im correct. what I'm wondering is are they interchangeable? or is their going to be a problem with putting a 1987 clutch on my 1986. Thanks guys

I would not put a 250mm disc on a 240mm flywheel. It should be easy to find a 240mm clutch as they are on ALL 84-89 NA cars and ALL 85-86 Turbo cars.

I'm with Tim, you want to match the clutch to the flywheel you're using.
Prius... because Pretentious wouldn't fit across the back of the car...

ONLY, 87-89 Turbo cars had a 250mm clutch and flywheel, ALL others are 240mm.

Just to set the facts straight here...

The bolt patterns for the pressure plate between the 240mm and 250mm are different, they are not the same.
So you cannot bolt a 240mm clutch setup onto a 250mm flywheel
Or you cannot bolt a 250mm clutch setup onto a 240mm flywheel

Also, only the 30a transmission accepts a 250mm. Its the only bell housing that has enough clearance.
All other bell housings will have to have material removed from the inside to fit.

On a side note, I run a stage 5 DXD clutch setup. It is a 240mm clutch onto a Fidanza flywheel.

Is there a thread somewhere on the removing of material you mentioned? I can't seem to find it. Thank you
