  • Methanol injection

I got my methanol injection installed and took the car for a test drive. http://www.alkycontrol.com/ I got it dialed in so i could start cranking up the boost and discovered had an ignition problem( a lot of breaking up and back firing ) boosting any thing over 10lbs. I ordered a new coil thinking that is the problem. When i installed the turbo i replaced the cap, rotor, coil wire, spark plug wires, and spark plugs. What else could the problem be?

How much plug gap are you running?

plug gap needs to be brought down to about 30mm -35mm.

make sure that your not spraying too much with the methanol injection.

plus, spraying at just 10lbs of boost will net a loss in power when compared to not using it all.

        methanol injection

The lower side of factory specks. I have heard of problems because of to much gap so i set them to the lower setting.

You could even go as low as .028" (That's what I run)!

Some info; stock computer, stock injectors, walbro 255, I went out in the country and did some long boosting and tuning I think i found the problem 9.95:1AFR when the missing starts  Why is my AFR getting so rich as i raise boost without the meth?

HOLY CRAP somthing is not right there. What are you using to find your AFR's? I dont understand HOW IN THE HELL a stock ecu could possibly make a 10:1 afr on stock injectors and at 10lbs boost WITHOUT the meth.

                      That shouldnt even be possible.

Not unless you have a rising rate regulator that bumps it up somthing grazy like 5psi per lb of boost.

a miss , as in blown out spark, will show up as rich mixture on the wide band. best way to explain is with no fire the fuel is just pumped through, and shows on the wide band are real rich mixture. .040 is wide enough for the spark to be blown out. i run .030 on my nitrous car and both my turbo cars.

You guys do realize that adding methanol IS adding fuel to the engine, even if methanol has a different stoich ratio, octane rating, evaporative cooling and even BTU content.
