  • Q45 Fuel Pump, Injectors, MAF?

    Since Z31.com is down I tried searching for this info here but I didnt find anything.
    I'm heading to the JY because they have a Z32 and a (Q45?) Infinity V8, both were in a crash.
    I'm crossing my fingers that the Z32 still has it's MAF and Fuel Pump. I already know that the brake Calipers
    have been sacked.

    I was wondering if there is anything worth taking from the Infinity. I believe
    I read on Z31.com a long time ago that it's fuel pump is the same as the Z32, but not the AFM (MAF whatever).
    correct me if I'm not remembering right. How 'bout the infinity injectors, worth it?

    For some reason, there are a million RX7's there too. So i'll be doing some injector shopping aswell.
    Any advice or anything else to look out for will be greatly appreciated before I leave.

    Q45 fuel pump is the same as the Z32
    Q45 maf is much larger but said not to "read" as much air/power as the Z32's. (Q maf is around 3", maybe slightly larger)
    Q45 injectors are 370 cc

    The Q45 throttle body is taken a lot as its large enough to swallow a small child or pet. :lol: Its right over 3 inches as well... but is usually overkill for most street setups. Just goes to show to many people think bigger is better. :lol:

          it's 80mm

          a lot of the 400+ whp S chassis guys are using them with bigger plenums

            Z32 NA vs TT fuel pump

            Just got back. I snagged the fuel pump which is good.
            I'm sure this has been asked before but is there a difference between Z32 NA and TT fuel pumps?

              I remember someone looking it up in fast and posting a picture. The part reference/lookup number is the same, but the part number itself is different (meaning the pumps are different, at least to Nissan).

                  My friend has an aftermarket programmable ecu in which you can remove the AFM all together...

                    MAF is technically a better name since the hot wire is measuring mass of the air.

                      I pulled the pump from a Z32 NA while I was there aswell as the Q45's. The pumps themselves looked exactly the same. I wonder if they are rated the same.
                      I'll post pictures up here for the sake of having some reference since Z31.com is unreliable. Atleast it wont be a repost here :lol:

                          I think its technically supposed to be MAFS... mass air flow sensor. I've also see it called MAS or mass air/airflow sensor and MFS, mass flow sensor.

                          Either way though, the MAF/MAFS/MAS/MFS is usually the hot wire type and an AFM is usually a flapper type, where the air flowing in causes a flap to move telling the ECU how much air is coming in.

                            We call it an AFM here in Australia, and so does the manual lol That's enough for me hehe...

                            My friend uses an ECU called the EMS stinger, in which you can do away with the AFM all together. He runs 10's in his RB30ET powered VL Commadore (GM), that's what I plan to use awsell as there's no need to even bother getting better AFMs that meter more air. Fairly useless really especially when you can get ECU's that dont need it, money best spent elsewhere!

                              map sensors cost money too, and so does the temp sensor you need to be accurate.... their only advantage is you can sample the intake closer to the engine and make quicker changes to fueling based on their feedback

                              and the afm/mas(/maf ) argument is silly, the afm would be a generic name like engine, the mass-air-sensor would be the most correct/specific to ours, whereas the air-flow-meter would be fine for describing the flapper type that moves based on the wind pressure inside

                              the flapper style is actually quite restrictive
