the ecu supplies the current afaik, so you would need a dropping resistor between it and the afm, and I'm not suggesting 9 volts but maybe like 11
But I don't know if the afm gets exactly 12v or it varies like the rest of the car systems up to 14v... if it varies then you'd need to go lower like 10 or 9 to affect it, and you'd need a seperate regulated power supply to keep it there
I can't see lowering the voltage harming the afm in any way
if someone were willing to try and log a/f changes, thats probably the only way we' know for sure
