Holsets are badd ass and like to build ALOT of boost. I cant get less than 12psi most the time and sometimes it will not push less than 18psi. This is clearly a problem with the wastegate i am running. But even if i unhook the wastegate completely and let the flapper be wide open it still builds alot of boost. So im thinking about going with an external so i can run low boost around town, like 8-10psi then high boost 20+psi. This will also prepare me for a future turbo upgrade that will need an external gate. Im thinkin a HX35/40 hybrid.... thoughts? brand for gate i should look into? I have an audi external gate....its really big though

I would run a minimum 38mm.The larger it is the easier it controlls boost. I'm ditching my 40mm and jumping up to a 50mm that is sitting on my entertainment center.
this is the setup I picked up.

seems to be good quality although the valve is not stainless. but I think it will be fine. the fricken wastegate is huge though.85 Z31 6.0 LSX turbo 766whp/792wtq

Or you could run one of these bad mamajamma's

The HKS brand goes for about $800 or so! My friend has one of these and it seems to be REALLY good quality. I was suprised.
Kinda overkill though :roll:85 Z31 6.0 LSX turbo 766whp/792wtq

I can't see needing a 50+mm valve. When you look at what so many people have used successfully it makes me think the design of the piping it's on is more important.
I can run 9 psi on my 60-1 with NO creep/spike/wavering of any kind. Whatever I set it to, is what it runs. If you watch the guage it slams up against that number and stays.
Racegate with 9psi spring.

A friend of mine also has an Hx-35 and since it has a divided housing, his wastegate was only bleeding off exhaust from one side until he cut out some of the divider in the turbine inlet. Maybe your setup is different but I thought I'd mention it. Norm86 Turbo

Tials are awsome because they come with a stainless steel valve. However when I pick a wastegate or a BOV I usually(depending on what it is) have no problem going cheap due to the fact that both of those pieces are pretty hard to screw up.
I've got an HKS knockoff 40mm with a profec B boost controller and it works fan fricken tastic.85 Z31 6.0 LSX turbo 766whp/792wtq
