  • oil cooler lines leaking...

Recently the woman's Z started smelling sweet and we took a look under the hood. It seems that the lines going to her stock oil cooler are leaking and I am trying to decide what to do with it...

I was thinking of just replacing the lines with stainless braided lines, though I'm not sure exactly how it would be done (never messed with that type of hose before). I've seen the nice kit that TSS has with the oil cooler and all of that.

She drives a stock 86t as her daily, and it kinda seems overkill to buy a kit like tss has. I am curious if any of you have any suggestions as I really don't want to replace the lines with something used.

    Thanks

SS lines would be perfect for a DD car. Seems safer anyway

Terrible idea putting those wheels on...

I really don't wanna mess with making the lines myself, any suggestions on someone in Houston, TX or what type of shop I would go to? Also, I have spare lines from another car and I can simply take the adapter w/lines up and I figure they could make them just like that. Seems like it would be perfect. Also, any ideas on cost?

      Thanks again,

I pulled an oil cooler off a Z awhile back and did the following to replace the worn and cracking lines.

At first, I took the lines that lead from the engine to the wheel well to a hose and fitting shop and had them make replicas of the originals using stainless steel braided lines. $70

Then, for the rest of the lines that lead to and from the cooler, I went cheaper and just bought a couple feet of stainless steel braided line, 6AN, and a couple hose clamps. I cut off the crimped section and just clamped the new hose on. Hasn't leaked a drop for two year now. $20

here's some pictures of the project

For a DD, I would just replace the rubber hose with rubber. It should last another 20 years.

yes, they were like that when i pulled them from the junkyard Z. So, i'm guessing the owner had the lines replaced with AN fittings brazed on the ends where the crimp fittings would have been.
