  • Anyone with an aluminum radiator

I'd like to see pictures, and hear your comments on the instalation of an aluminum radiator. What brand, size and configuration (single or dual core, down or cross flow) are you using? The stock radiator is 26x18 single core which I've upgraded to a dual core.

I want to upgrade again to one with efan below the nose brace between the light buckets that holds the hood release safty catch. My guess is that the largest one could be 22x18 dual core, cross flow. I plan to run the 3" intake pipe from the AFM to the air intake filter in front of the radiator (no more hot air). My car is an 86NA modified.
What, me worry? It just takes a little time, patience and thought!

Since you dont have IC piping to deal with, I would say stay with the stock dual core and focus on proper airflow through the radiator.

If you want to do a dual core, remove the nose and rad then measure. You need to be sure that by moving it you maintain the proper channel for air to be directed through it.

if you want to go crazy for a true cold air intake put your air filter where most people put there intercoolers. or you could go through the inner fender

There are a couple more pictures of mine in jasons intercooler page. It's an afco. Pretty straight foward on the instalation. Finding hoses to fit was the worst part. I did it like that, to free up room for an intercooler, and now its easier to work on the engine.

            radiator set up

That is the basic idea I have. Andy, what is the size of yur afco, do you have the part number? Your car looks like a NA also, which hoses did you have trouble finding, doesn't afco offer optional inlet & outlet neck sizes?

Onefast87, what is the cooler mounted to the right? What brand & size did you use? It looks like you have the air intake pipe running into the nose the way I am planning mine. I have seen this type of set up on cars with larde intercoolers for turbos.

Since the stock radiator will be removed, I should have a lot of air coming in threw the nose directly into the air filter and then threw the back of the radiator.
What, me worry? It just takes a little time, patience and thought!

teh cooler on the right is for my oil cooler kit, the radiator i used is the AFCO vertical mount radiator. Part number: 80107N, also i did run my air filter up front and it seems to work great except for the weird resonance i get from it!

also the radiator shown has smaller inlet ports that the stock rad, i also had a hell of a time finding the top and lower rad hose, stupid canadian tire and there no measurement on the labels

I used the 80107N also. Like onefast87 said, the afco has different size inlet ports. I made an adaptor so the hoses would fit.

Where'd you get that oil cooler from? I like that one, it looks decent...

i never took a picture of the relocated oil filter either, very good kit, i found that the lines were a little too long, but i made it work!

just fyi since I have picked up a couple things lately from the wrecker

96+ caravan has an aluminum/aluminized double-pass radiator, inlet and outlet are both on the same end, but it's 33" or so long and about 15" tall... this means you could just narrowly stick it between the wheel wells ontop of the framerails, this would be really close to the belts so would have to run pusher fans... and it'd need to be removed everytime you worked on it but...

you can pick the rad up dirt cheap, the hoses would be really short, and you'd have a huge amount of space, but basically anything like wires/hoses/intake would have to be relocated outward and possibly punch through the wheel wells to go around it
