my walbro is in the stock cage mounted with worm clamps. It's loud as hell, but I don't have the sound mats laid back down yet.

You have bigger issues going on. Starting problems, noises that go away when the headlights are on, blah blah....
Make a list of problems, then map them out on a wiring diagram and see if there are any common paths.
