  • Oil cooler kits

The stock oil cooler lines are shagged on my car and I was looking at this kit we can get here in Australia.

Any opinions re: size etc and mounting locations. My AC condensor is gone so I'm thinking there.

He also has oil filter relocation kits. Are these a worthwhile thing to do or mainly just rice factor.

I kinda like the idea of relocating the oil filter. I hate burning my self on the manifold. I wouldnt call it rice if its function over fasion.

This is onefast87's setup, and is the route I'll be going when I upgrade oil coolers...

As for relocating the oil filter, I dont really see the point in it myself. I guess it's understandable for USDM Z31's because the engine bay layout is so funky and the cruise control unit is totally in the way but here where everything is the right way around it's super easy to get to the oil filter and takes all of 5 minutes if that to remove it and reinstall. It's not like you're going to change it every day... Where would it even go anyway in the engine bay if it was to be relocated is what I want to know. Although it does appear that almost all oil cooler kits come with filter relocation parts also.

Ah yeah can just see the pipe there for it, how do you go with getting airflow to the cooler in that location.

Thats where I'm thinking of mounting mine but I have the radiator in the stock position still.

                Oil line route

From Maxspeed oil cooler page they suggest the setup to be oil line out from engine to filter. Filter to oil cooler. Oil cooler back to engine. It seems from the pictures that you are running the braided line behind the radiator from left to right and located the filter in the front right nose, then running the line back behind the radiator were it comes forward at the top left and goes to the cooler, then back to the engine. You had stated that the braided lines were a little short, how is this possible? Would you explain the routing of your oil lines please.
What, me worry? It just takes a little time, patience and thought!

                      It wouldn't... lol

It's in the way of intercooler piping in that location anyway so most people have to move it when going that route.

you can get a universal one from an parts store, either a heavy duty trans cooler for trucks or a real oil cooler, and then just a generic relocation kit like transdapt or whoever... make some custom hoses at a hydraulics shop and bingo same thing half the price (or less)

but the bling factor just isn't there.

i like shiny stuff under the hood. thats why i spent hours polishing a turd turbo.

it could be as bling if you get braided hoses and polish the oil cooler, the only thing you won't get is the fruity coloured -an fittings

                              oil pump flow volume

With the use of an oil cooler do you need to increase the flow rate by using a stronger oil pump? I have heard that the 86T automatic's oil pump was stronger than those used in the NA, anyone know for sure?
