  • Nitrous trivia anyone?

Why is it that people fear blowing up the intake while running nitrous? How would this happen? What is the solution?

Hint- another member touched on the solution (or part of it) in the nitrous on an NA thread.

      Nitrous window switch?

      prevents super rich explosive stuff....
It may not be a Z, but it's still got a turbo...

a poor intake manifold design or poor nitrous jet location would cause fuel to puddle somewhere in the intake track, and with an oxidizer (sp check) like nitrous, it can get volitile.

It can also backfire if a nitrous system is set up too lean.

Only a nitrous backfire would cause an explosion. It happened to the shop's racecar and blew our intercooler to shyte.

ding! You are not supposed to activate your nitrous under 3000rpm. If you do, chances are that this will happen.

Or even worse. If you activate it and then bog down below 3k this could happen. Damn that silvia whoops the zo6's ass! http://video.ls1tech.com/category/Nitro ... 7EDE80.htm
            or this.

In order to help control this a window switch is used

The reason not to spray below 3K is so that the fuel won't puddle in the intake. The velocity of air has to be enough to suck all the fuel/N2O where it is suposed to go.

If you have enough intake velocity to draw everything in at idle, you can spray off idle, but most cars can't do that.
