  • Cam gear timing.

On the VG30's sold in the US the stock timing setting for the distributor is at 20*BTDC (on my 84 anyhow).
Does anyone have a factory service manual for the European Z's? My question is, is the setting for the distributor on the european cam which is 264/262 with .393lift (US cams are 252/252 with .393) the same 20* BTDC or is it different?

If you have the european cams and can verify what the timing is set at I would appreciate it. If you have a european FSM could you check in the engine management section, the valve timing chart, and send me the values for a thru f.
      Thanks

Yes that would be great. What I am looking for is the Engine Mechanical section (EM) (page 38 in the US FSM)
It is the valve timing chart. The circle showing the opening and closing of the valves.
At the bottom is a table of values a thru f in degrees.
That is what I need, although the values of a-f would be do fine
            a should be 264*
            b should be 262*
            c ?
            d ?
            e ?
            f?

            thanks

That is exactly what I wanted. The problem is that it isn't what I expected. I was under the impression that the european cars had cams that had a 264/262 duration with a .393 lift. The 252/252 is the US cam.
Now you through in another twist. The cam is the same as my stock cam with the intake opening and closing at the same point as my 84NA instead of 10*BTDC and 58* ABDC as the post 8/87 turbos in the US. The exhaust is what is really confusing. Yours opens at the same point as mine, 62* ATDC, but closes 6* later at 16* ATDC which makes the duration on your exhaust lobe 258 instead of the 252 the FSM says. WTF!

Anyone have any other figures or ideas

edit: few info is missing from my books. like lsd torque specs. they are in US fsm, but not in my book.

Could you check with a dealer

Kennedy, any chance to check with your local dealer and see if his manual is the same as yours?

Russ, I'm going to call Abe at MSA and see if he can shed some light.

Possibly you can car Pierre at Pierre Z in Hawthorne, CA (310) 644-3645. He is the service center that does a lot of work for Nissan, Ca. Check your PM.
What, me worry? It just takes a little time, patience and thought!

                        Thanks!!
I got the same numbers from the Z site in England. So much for European Cams. They must be an urban legend. All I can figure is that they are Nismo cams.
I'll put them in and check and see where they dial in and let you know
