Going to the junkyard next week and pulling a motor (complete for $190 INCLUDING turbo charger and accessories.

I want to really buy a good motor, but how would u go by checking compression and all? What could I do WITHOUT pulling apart the motor?

All the junk yards I've dealt with offer an exhange on parts that do not work.

If you get a motor that has a burnt piston, call them and tell them it is blown and you want a new one. That's how it is.

Just try to find one with low mileage in semi decent condition and give it a shot.
Hell I am going to buy a junk yard engine just for the hell of it incase I...hmm, blow this one

The yard should have a gaurentee on the motor. If its not good you take it back and worst case scenerio you are out a whole lot of time.

          dude. read a damn book.

get a compression checking set-up from napa or checker or some autoparts store.

          go to junkyard.

remove all spark plugs from engine to be tested.

find a battery with a really good charge.

stick compression checker in 1st hole.

crank / spin motor for about 10 seconds.

check gauge. it should hold the pressure for awhile without bleeding down. for a good motor that will not need any work.

          continue checking cylinders 2-6.

          compare with factory recommendations.

            also another step.

tell firehawk you are sorry for blowing up your car and associating his name with your foolishness.

its not his fault you were driving like an idiot.

              standards for motor compression

              NA:
              128 - 173 psi

              turbo:
              121-165 psi

let him spend 1700$ and blow the other engine up.

10 bucks says he'd do it again thinking a rebuilt engine can withstand his idiocy.

                  10 bucks says lesson learned.

The yard I go to does NOT allow you to take a battery in there, and even so if I did how would I turn over the motor if theres no keys! :?
Damn NA is 123-180? I got a crap load above 180PSI on all 5 other cylinders.

*firehawk was not associated with anything I said, hes a good guy and does amazing work.

Somehow I doubt it. After a new motor - it will probably make you think it will handle more.

What gets me is that he's having trouble telling the difference between 15 and 30 seconds of boost. If he can't tell the difference it could've been much longer for all we know.

i don`t see what the big deal is. it seems to be a hobby of mine to slap all my shit on n/a junkyard motors, boost the crap out of it till smoke pours from the breathers. low compression just means i can turn the boost up now right?
