  • The agony!!! I can't decide between a Gt4088 or Pt-6176...

This is killing me!!! I found a smokin deal on a Pt-6176 rated at 680hp with the gt35r 61mm compressor wheel, a p-trim turbine in an .81ar t4 housing...but the 4088 just looks sooo sweet!!! 64.7mm inducer with 1.06ar turbine housing and 77mm wheel.

I've been doing a lot of research on the two and basically the pt-6176 seems like a perfect street turbo for the vg30, pretty much can't go wrong with it. I just can't stop lusting after the 4088 though, it just seems to be so much more powerful and still pretty cheap but I'm not sure how it would spool considering how much bigger it is and the custom manifold I'll be runniing does not have a divided turbine flange. It seems to be a like a more efficient t04r but it might be a little overkill for my power goals (around 500whp stock bottom end, pump gas, everything else built).

Opinions anyone?? At this point I could go either way between the two... :x

If your goal is 500hp, then don't go with a GT40.

Yea, if you know that you're not going much over 500whp, then get a turbo that matches your goal so you can get the least amount of lag possible.

Hey davisranso when you get your car up and running we'll have to meet up sometime. I can't wait to put the HX35 in you sold me. Running on a VG33 20lbs of boost at around 3100rpm......Gotta love it!!!

I know...that thing will be a beast on the streets when it's done. Mine's coming along very slowly, but I'm making progress little by little...

I'm going to be running a custom turbo manifold I bought from a guy on this board with the Pt6176 and a 38mm external wastegate.

It actually wasn't the best designed manifold the more I studied it so I'm gonna cut off the t3 flanged it came with, and weld on a t4 flange instead. The turbo also looks like it would come out in a bad spot without enough clearance from the strut tower so I'll either need to take a hammer to it to clear some space or cut off the end of the manifold where it turns up into the turbo and extend it a little furthur out.

yeah, that doesn't look like it's gonna turn out well as it is. you should look at the manifolds that satan does. he runs a gt42r and his fits with out modifications, including an external wastegate.

I don't think you will be able to make 500whp on a 61mm turbo (but I would love to be proven wrong)

to make 500whp, a 67mm turbo would be better. On race gas, that 61 will make 500whp, but not on pump.

Supras have a hard time making 500whp on a 61 on pump, and they have a MUCH MICH better breathing head. Most people I know with a 67mm turbo on a supra make about 450-500 whp on pump (18psi) and 600-650 whp on race gas (28-30psi)

Honestly, unless you spin to 8000rpm and have MASSIVE head work done, I don't think the 61 will make the power you want.

I have the exact same goal for my car, and I am using the 67mm ball bearing turbo. F**k it, I'm going to splerge on the turbo.

Jason did it on a 60-1 with a stg 3 turbine so I'm not worried at all. Massive headwork is definitly not neccessary but I'll be pushin some schneider cams and some oversized ferrea valves, plus I'm pretty sure my turbo manifold will flow waaaay better than stock

Just remember, The more back pressure you have from the turbo the more heat is going to build up in the combustion chamber which will limit how much boost it will take. I guess just be conservetive at first and slowing work up to 500whp so you know everything is working good like one would hope.
