I am about to envoke on a motor swap journey. Got a phone call from Ellis Autoworkz letting me know there was a VG33E sitting in a junkyard. Two hours later, and the engine was half-in/half out of the donor. It was a 2000 Xterra. I am guessing the mileage is aroun 120-160K based on the information written on the windshied. Looks like there is nothing wrong with the motor.

Left the heads and accessories in the JY. Only need the block since everything from my VG30ET will be swapped over. More to come.

A little research on the Xterra motor: 8.9:1 compression. The pistons are also reliefed to make it non-interferance. Looking at having some fun putting this together. Just have to get a gasket set and new timing belt and since I have the tranny out, a new throw-out bearing.

Hmm, I didnt know the vg33 was like that also. Meaning the pistons being relieved like that. I thought that was just a Mercury villager thing.

It's more than just the pistons. If its anything like the villager/quest VG, it's the cams that make it that way. They have less lift.

They are. However I'm thinking they maybe a better starting point for port work because the short side radius has more meat on it, giving the airflow a better angle of attack.

Here is the thread, I would like to encourage disscusion on this.
