  • so I've been reading and........

So after doing some reading here on the forum I have some questions. I read that I can remove just about everything from my gutted plenum. So I posted some pictures of what's left on the plenum. Can I remove these items? The first one had a boost leak through the wires/plug so I used black RTV. I'm alll for getting rid of unnecessary stuff in the engine bay. Thanks for the help.

Ok so this is NOT on the plenum. But can I remove it too?

Top picture is the FICD (fast idle control device) and yes from my understanding this can be removed without any ill effects. If I recall correctly Jason has had it pulled from his plenum for a long time with no problems and I'm also removing mine when I install my gutted plenum aswell. Just have to get a small plate made up to block it off, same with the EGR and Air regulator (3rd pic) which can also be removed.

I'm personally leaving my air regulator intact because I dont like rough cold starts, matter of opinion there if it will bother you or not.

I have eliminated all that crap and my car idles fine, cold or not.

You may want to keep the vacume pump if you use the heater.
There may be a way around that though.

I haven't tested the running conditions with the AR removed on my 86 turbo, however my NA was idling like crap when cold and I replaced the AR and it fixed it so I just assumed that the turbo would be the same. All the better if removing that does nothing bad aswell!

Good to know. I will remove that stuff this weekend & fabricate some plates to block them off with. Thanks guys.

Well with my AC removed I only have heat. If I remove that vacuum pump will I still be able to turn the heater on in the winter? Not that it gets all that cold out here in Vegas. But that also means I don't worry about cold starts.

That's the dealie for the climate control, not the vac pump.

Without it in place and working you will constantly have heat, unless you hooked the heater core coolant shutoff valve to a constant vac source, then you would have no heat. You would also need to provide vac for the hose going into the car, otherwise your heater will only blow out the defrost vents.

Well I only have heat right now anyway. But the vents switch. As long as I can have some heat in the car in the winter it doesn't matter what vents it comes out of. So that will be removed along with the plenum stuff.

Anyone know where to get a better looking overflow bottle? Mine is stock & nasty looking.

BTW, love the horns. LOUD. Perfect!! Thanks Jason!!

Paint it maybe? Leaving a strip clear to see the level etc...

Crap,I was wrong about that in my first post, my bad.
Anyways, like Jason said, with it removed you will have heat
even in the summer. What I did to counter this, I used a zip tie to
lift the lever on the bottom of the coolant shutoff valve. Effectively
                        closing the valve.
