TT Forge Pistons Any body using them....

I need to buy custom forge pistons ASAP. I was waiting for the BRC group buy over at 88hybrid that went to shit after 4 months of waiting. There excuse is that they cant get the forgings

Anyways @#$% BRC they had one of my stock rods and pistons and one of my TT eagle rod for four moth with that sorry excuse... I told them to send it back.
I was thinking of getting the TT pistons from JE to use with my eagle TT rods. does anybody know the compression I will get if I use them.

This is getting me very frustrated the only thing I'm waiting is on pistons.

I run Weiscos that are made for the TT motor they are rated to run a 8.5:1 CR ratio on the DOHC motor, on the VG30ET the CR will be around 7.5:1.

As far as I know JE offers 9:1 or 10.5:1 compression ratios for the DOHC, so that would be around 8:1 and 9.5:1 with SOHC heads.

If you get the TT pistons from JE I've got a BRAND NEW set of file fit rings that I will sell you for those pistons for 80 bucks normally like $120-140 depending on where you get them
I run JE's and they are pretty stout. however, if I were to do it again I would run arias just because they are not as concerned with the weight savings but instead thicker domes to be more indestructable. But with the JE's you can rev higher.

                >>>>>>

                SATAN,
Is this the JE part # 165053 you are using did you use the standard size or .020 over bore. If I use this one that will put my compression ratios at 8:1 like Steve mention correct I don't want to go any lower than 8:1

                STEVE,
How did you come out with this calculation of the JE TT compression for our SOHC heads. This guy got 8.2:1 http://jocke.z31turbo.com/spec.htm

What Ring Sets are you guys using or recommend !!!!!! I was thinking the total seal rigs to go with this set up.

Thanks to all of you for helping out you guys are great.

Now I feel a little less frustrated I'm taking tomorrow the block to the machine shop sow they could check it and tell me which size bore 87.5mm or +.020 to get.

8.2:1 is probably a little more accurate, when I figured it based on the data I had it's right around .8-.9 or so drop in compression ratio and only because of the different chamber size.

Don't bore if you don't need to, it's just a waste of money. You should be able to tell roughly how much wear there is based on a simple visual inspection of the factory hone and feeling the top ridge.

Yea I quess I would say its definitly closer to 8.2:1 but its definitly in between 8.0:1 and 8.2:1.

I use Total Seal Rings on every motor I have built and never had an issue with them

Never used Total seal. A lot of pro guys seem to like them I guess. However I have heard on high hp aplications that because the top ring overlaps on itsself this means that the top of the top ring is very thin causing it to be less "Beefy" meaning that it would not take as much abuse if somthing were to go wrong.
Seems like an excelent design though. This is just what i've heard. How true can it be though if they run extreemly fast times with those rings?
Mario88ss the pistons I run are the "off the shelf" TTpistons. I would have to search for the part number but its the same one you would find at any site that sells them.

I know a lot of people that can vouce for total seal rings being as or more reliable than most stock rings.

You may be thinking of their gapless rings, which I would never use on a boosted motor.

There's also the option of a chromed top ring for even better compression and durability, but they do reportedly eat into the cylinder walls more over time causing 40-50% more wear than regular rings.

I put 20k on a B18C1 running 20lbs on a GT35R with Total seals with no problem and when I blew the motor it had nothing to do with the Rings
