jason, you should PM my brother about this, his CNC machine would be perfect for what your looking for, and we have a local plastics place to us we have an account with. we've talked about doing heatshield phonelic spacers for hondas, etc, and for his car, he just hasnt gotten around to it.

Yeah, unfortunately it's not cheap stuff at all.
GE: as far as phenols go, the acetal homopolymer's like Delrin behave more like metals than polymers. Heat and compression tolerances would be similar to that of aluminum.
Polyethelene(HDPE) would be one since it has a high heat tolerance, but it is very hard and would warp in time. those are cheaper then delrin at $67-$73 per 1/4"x4'x8' sheet. These are the ones the honda places make them out of...
In comparison a 1/4"x24"x48" sheet of delrin is about $130.
Teflon(PTFE) can take some serious intake temps, would work nicely also in a bit thicker application but it is pricy. 1/8"x48"x48" is about $250 per sheet...ouch
and, well...you know the Phenolics (glass, papers, fibers) are hard but alot companies do make them out of this because, well....they do block heat good.Gone - 1988 Shiro

Nivo: My thinking is the extra thickness would be of benefit two ways:
- having the plenum sit higher provides for more air movement around the injectors under the plenum and might keep it cooler just from that.
- slightly longer runner aiding the now commonplace gutted plenum design (though I think you won't be able to measure any difference until it's over 1/2" longer)
I'm not sure either way, I may just be making it more expensive than it has to be. Those prices are actually a little on the low side from what I've found...

playing with play-doh, plenum hood clearance
I have been thinking of doing this for a while now. So I went out today and measured the hood clearance between the stock plenum, cover removed, and the hood/hood frame. I wanted to see how tall I could go with a spacer. Of course you have to consider if your using a strut bar and how much taller the top of the gutted plenum is with a plate welded onto it.

I'm going to see if I can get them in different thicknesses, but as is those sheets are expensive as all heck... and machine work is never cheap.

You know if you wanted something thicker you could always just have the bottom of the plenum shaved. You could compensate the shaved alluminum with the material plus some to lengthen the runners. Although the long piece wouldn't sell as well as the others because of the additional modification.KILL HADJI
