  • 200SX VG30E intake

I saw a crashed 1987 VG30E in the JY today. It has a totally different plenum collector.

There is no "Elbow" like ours. The throttle boddy comes off the middle of the plenum and makes
me imagine it flowing more evenly that way. There was a Z right next to it so I glanced back and fourt at
the differences and the the 200SX plenum is definately thinner. I didnt bother taking the cover off so I didnt see
if it had the divided runners like the Z does...I imagine so. This would be an interesting gutted plenum although I'd rather have a gutted maxima one.

Is there anything I could take off this car as an "Upgrade"...like anything that would be considered better?
I believe the turbos came with an LSD correct?

Noshit, that would be a better as long as it doesn't have more restrictive insides.

Terrible idea putting those wheels on...

did you try taking the cover off and looking to see if the casting is divided down the middle???? that would have been the easiest way to look.

any pics of the inside there Crowbar???

i've been search the net and haven't found anything yet. i didn't see any pictures on jason's site either.

it might be easier to modify they the gutting of the stocker.

I will go back tomorrow and take pictures if you guys want. I just wasnt motivated at the time. Not sure if its more restrictive as-is...but I'm talking about gutting such a thing and maybe raising its roof a bit. It's interesting...makes me think it would flow more even than our Z plenum since it doesnt have that elbow.

well hell, if you want the one I saw I can pull that for you. Just add $10 to whatever they charge me and its yours. I'll throw in the receipt so we are straight. Its up to you.

Oh and add shipping to that

I have two of them sitting in my garage. The plenum is open on the inside with no divider running down the middle. I have a 72 Datsun 510 Wagon with a VG30 from a 85 300zx and this is the prefered manifold because of the side entry throttle body. The ZX manifold forces you to cut the firewall on a 510 install.

they are not jpegs. if they were they would have been downloaded as jpegs. everyone else that sends pictures to me sends jpegs and they work great. why don't you just post the pictures here. so everyone can see how useless your info is.

yes post them, why email them anywhere?

btw I wrote up the plenum description as all that stuff was on ym 3z site and jason grabbed it for his faq.... however my blurb was like this:

                            * A very compact early (87-88) 200sx V6 intake, good space potential
                            * Appears to be a common log design without any turbulation aside from idle controls and egr
                            * Doesn't seem to be optimized for even chamber distribution, merely space saving
                            see: http://moredhel.net/3z/plenums.html

is he right and it could flow slightly more air? possibly, but I know that the uneven distribution is a much more serious problem on a turbo car, something the turbo dodge/chrysler crowd did lots of testing with - being as they have intakes I classify as absolutely junk.... not surprising, and I know a few people who popped them so it is a very real problem

i have seen the images on your site G-E. thanks. i would really like to see the inside of the plenuim. and see if gains can be made. I.E. smoothing out the inside and porting it. i have an 2 extra lower intakes that i can practice honing in my apartment where the power that be can't see.

i'm not in a position right now where i can fabricate my own plenuim. i live in married student housing on my university campus. its a sin to change my oil here. so if i can bolt something up that would be great. i sneak out and scrap paint off my car when the gestopo isn't around.

i have plans in my head to make a custom plenuim and then i could achieve more power on my NA. via computer mods. i can't decided on a course for the computer yet. it'll probably be nistune.
