  • Turbo spooling

I'm curious- at what RPM's does everyone turbos start spooling up, and what turbo? It's not something I hear much of.

start spooling or hit full boost?

Terrible idea putting those wheels on...

begin spooling, i.e. boost starts coming on

I start spooling as soon as I start moving. I start making boost probably somewhere around 2000rpm maybe
Full boost hits 12psi on a stock T3 at about 2600rpm in 3rd gear. Filter on the MAF and no exhaust.

Yeah I'm spooling almost instantly. I'm making low boost ~5 psi at 1700 rpms.

Stage 3 turbine, stock housing. 60-1 compressor.

Depends on the gear you are in, but it gets 1-2PSI at 1800-2000rpm and steadily builds. This is going off memory but it's something like:

            10PSI by 3000rpm
            15PSI by 3800rpm
            21PSI by 4500rpm

It's a little odd how it spools. Lots of more efficient turbochargers will build boost almost instantly if they are sufficiently over the threshold RPM. I think the larger compressor and small turbine housing has a lot to do with the strange-ish boost response.
