  • the S12 to Z31 suspension compatibility thread

so I've been lurking the club-S12.org board looking at what people have been doing with their S12s, and I have come across some interesting suspension/chassis parts available for their cars.

reading their discussions, it's for sure the IRS suspension is exactly the same as a Z31, and there is debate that the front suspension is either the same as a 280ZX or 300ZX, with evidence of the same strut tube/springs as the 280Z but parts like Z31 tension rod bushings working perfectly as well in the S12 200SX.

so with that, I bring some interesting parts available to the S12 community that could potentially work for the Z31 crowd:

A-1 Racing tie rods for the 84-88 200SX: listed as being used for S13 hub conversions, but others on the forum have stated they work just fine with stock suspension bits as well and are direct drop in

MMR catalog for the S12 200SX: lots of random bushings and tie bars, in particular interest (to me at least) is the passenger side steering rack bushing, billet aluminum tranny mount and the fact that some of the bushings are available in delrin instead of polyurethane as an alternative to the only ones we've known to be available to us

    more as I find it

anyone else that knows something, please contribute!

Rear subframe is same on these cars. I have order few sets of Z31 rear subframe poly bushings to S12 owners.

Our forum had few topics of S12/Z31 part.. i just need to find them and check is any good info there.

it's very simple, as stated front = s130, rear = early z31.... however due to the geometry of the front they are able to swap to s13 front suspension easily

except those with the live-axle rear, they are SOL heh

          Sorry but that's a no-go for S13 hubs on a Z31. Tried it, they won't work for a few reasons.... :-(

I have had both Z31 and S12, and the shocks and the struts are not the same. There is about an inch to an inch and a half in length difference. Also the S12's that I had had the 4.111 rearend gears and a center support bearing built into the driveshaft. Both of my S12's had the VG30.

Center support bearing on our shorty ass drive shafts?

Terrible idea putting those wheels on...
