  • Power Block TV 03/04/07 wheel/rim offset gauge

    HorsePower TV or MuscleCar TV?

Any body see this episode where a gauge that holds a tire is bolted
to the wheel hub so the wheel off set can be found? I thought they said
they got it from TireRack. I called ... they never hear of it.

Anyone know where one can find this product? My alternative is to make my own.

Here is a patent drawing of a similar product I found while searching the web.

I saw that episode to Gary. Unfortunately, I don't remember.

I saw that one too. Pretty nice tool, but I'm sure it costs quite a bit of money to use only once or twice.

It would be cheap enough for me to just make my own.

You would think that every tire shop in the world would have several of those laying around but Ive never seen a single one.

Could be one of those things that just make too much sense.
Just stand back and throw money.
            Performance costs money.
            Reliable performance costs more.

more like no tire shops really care, hardly anyone ever gets anything even close to maximum allowable fitment, and much less asks the shop to get a wheel to fit.... the shop will tell them what will fit based on their book and products they have in stock, they certainly won't guess for you, nor will they order you uncommon rims without being dead sure....

so in the end if you get "upgraded" aka plus-sized they'll still keep your width close to stock if you don't tell them your requirements, they are the "experts" afterall

Sunken is as sunken does. I have to agree with GE. If you want a whel and tire combination that really works right, most shops won't accomodate you. They want to sell you what they have in a close enough configuration and get you out the door.

Ken: that guage is cool. I've seen basic metal ones that didn't do half the measurements that one allows.

Wow, that's not as expensive as I thought it would be.

I found it. It is called the Tire MountMate and yes it is expensive ($500).

Percy's WheelRite is a less expensive product.

However, after thinking about it a bit more I think I can come up with
DYI made from construction cardboard. If I'm successful, I will submit a
write up to Jason for posting. Oh yeah. I forgot. I have to reattach the
front and rear suspension before I can do that and before that I've to ....
