    How the hell did you compress that spring in order to get the snap ring on?!!

    I've rebuilt two of mine.

    I put the caliper in a vice with the plunger hole facing up. Using a big c-clamp and a deep socket that will fit onto the top of the metal cup piece, I compress the spring with the c-clamp. Making sure that the edges of the metal cup don't bind on the sides as it goes into the hole, I set the c-clip in its seat. It's tight, a bitch, and difficult, but it works.
