  • overhauling cv axle...non turbo

I disassembled the rear drivers n/a cv axle because the boot split and grease was everyplace...i removed the c clip and slid the three roller bearing off the shaft...i didn't realize the shaft and bearing were supposed to be "marked" with paint to to reassembly in the same positioning? I suppose it matters so they don't bind.. anyone have a pix of a complete cv without the boots? is the inner bearing offset compared to the outer bearing? Thx,Mike

just to clarify, you disassembled one side of the driver side shaft?

If so just put it back together, it will be fine.

If I recall correctly, the inner and outer bearing ("tripods") should be offset from one another.

Thanks for the replies...I ended up aligning both tri-pod bearings in the same position ...i wiggled/contorted them around and it didn't bind on the work bench so installed them that way....took it for a drive and it was fine.

Where did you get the new boot from?

if you didnt put it together exactly as it came apart, you now unbalanced it and it will shake the rear end.
