  • oil pan gasket blow out

So . . . what would cause this? The FelPro gasket is only 20 miles old. It looks like the gasket exploded right there. This is on the Z that I just did a NA to turbo swap. I'm pretty confident that it wasn't torqued down too hard.

Anyways, now I have oil spilling out of the engine. So to fix this, I now have to prop the engine and lower the front crossmember enough to remove the oil pan. Easier said than done.

      That is way bogus....

How are you venting the crank case gasses? Stock setup? Maybe you have to much pressure

Terrible idea putting those wheels on...

I always thought that nissan reccommended to use silicone for the oil pan gasket? That is what I did, never had a problem.

I agree that you have a bad pcv or to much oil, both of those could cause this. Maybe try to vent the pcv to atmosphere.

I have valve cover breather filters on each valve cover, so these certainly isn't any issue with pressure venting.

My guess is that the oil was too high.

You will still need the thicker rubber part to seal the oil pump and rear area of the oil pan, or just pile a crap load of RTV there and hope for the best.

The non-w series motors used a full gasket. The W series motors use rtv and the rubber sections each end of the crank.

                      YEah, and they'll add 5hp too! j/k

Looks like it could be a case of poor prep from the photo.
I see visible rust on the block.
What did you use and do to prep both the surface of the blocka nd the surface of the pan?
You need to be "clean" and "oil free" to start off with.
*I ALWAYS use Permatex "Right Stuff" on either application(w-series and non-w series).

by looking at the photo, the area would look bad because there has been oil spewing from it.

i removed all the old gasket and RTV material from the engine and pan and then cleaned both area's with laquer thinner.

overtorquing maybe? , now that i have been working on cars for a couple of months , ive started to realize that i overtorque almost evrything...not a big problem most of the time , just overkill.. i'm thinking of you sandwhiched that gaske too tight ,it would deform its way out from the pressure ? just a thought..
