  • Speedometer Is Dead? How do you fix it?

My speedometer on my 86NA last year was working perfectly and one day I looked down at how fast I was going (40) and it just FELL to 0 and has never moved ever since then.

    I Want to replace it.
Where do you buy a new cable at and how much does it cost and how do you replace it?
    thanks!

Remember I have an 86NA with ANALOG dash so its a speedo CABLE.

      well...
just got the car up on jackstands.

      looked under the car.
the speedo cable (where the cable itself attaches to the "circle" thing and then that attaches to the transmission) and it was HAND loose... so was the thick ground wire from that spot to the chassis, that ground's "bolt" was HAND loose as well...
      and then I looked up.
      WTF?
its a sensor connected to my tranny with 2 wires.. what the heck is that?

      freakign weird!

Theres LOTS of signs of oil that has been dripping around that tranny area.

why is my speedo not working?

I tightened the ground and the speedo cable circle thing to the tranny. and drove the car and still at 0mph.

the cable and the grounding strap are not really related to your speedo not working.

Did you check the fitment and of the cable end into the transmission fitting? Anything stripped out?

Also check your connection to the speedo its self.
Just stand back and throw money.
        Performance costs money.
        Reliable performance costs more.
