  • Just got my new MC in the mail

Just got my master cyl. for my brakes in the mail on my 86NA...

It says it HAS to be blench bleed before installing it.
It has no instructions, what is this and how do u do it exactly?

Also... I opened it and took a quick glimpse and saw the 2 circles at the top where the reservoir fits on to... uhh... how do you take off the old reservoir and how do you attach it to the new one?
It seems like there are no clamps or screws or anything?

No clamps or screws, You have to pry it with a screw driver/prybar and be VERY CARFUL as they are brittle due to the age of the resiv. TAKE YOUR TIME

              Thats a good write up.
To add to it, I figured a couple simple things.Use a rubber band to hold
the hoses. I used a bit driver w/out a bit to depress the piston (more contact area seemed safer to push with). And without a bench vise I
just sit down with a book or something to lean against my stomach, put the driver against the book and pull the master to me.

Do you mean crawl under the dash, disconect the pedal, and push the rod all the way in with your toe all the wile you are observing the bubbles in
                    the resivor?

i dont know why you would diconnect the pedal thats would change nothing. and yes usally you can peer through that little gap between the hood and firewall. or stand outside the car and peer around the open hood. so can you ever change a master with out opening any bleeders and wind up with a perfect pedal?

The pedal doesn't push the piston in the whole way. You will have a hard time clearing the air out by only partialy plunging it. Thats why you bench bleed.

I just use a vacuum pump and a couple quarts of fluid through it...I get the fluid for free anyway!
