  • Hood struts

Hello, my hood struts don't keep the hood up anymore on my 88 n/a. I was wondering what is a good brand to go with that will keep my hood up but also if possible not oem price. Like something off amazon if they would work

Pep Boys, O'Reily's .. all about the same.
Liftetime guarantee .. but keep your reciept. They'll last 5-7 years.
I've got to replace mine (again) .. I think I still have the reciept in the glove box (someplace) .. and I just cleaned it out too.

I keep all of my car reciepts .. but there are so many of them ...

I'm running some generic stuff from AutoZone.

If your struts don't come with the ball studs, you can get them from just about any Ford in the boneyard. I ended up with two from a Taurus and two from something else.

Picked some struts up at orielly and now the hood stays up so well it doesnt like to come down, works very good. Makes it much easier to work on the engine without haveing to use something to hold the hood up with.

To make them fit i had to drill out the rivets on the mounting pieces, went and got some little bolts to attach them to the new ones.

Make your hood struts up to date easyer than you think : Not only BUT MAINLY FOR EUROPEAN DRIVERS

BMW 1-er hood gasstrut with BMW Z3 Coupe trunk nut passt without any problem
                Parts you need:
                - BMW 1-er Motorhaube Gasfeder 1 stk/ seite , BMW teile 51 23 7 118 370, but you dont need to buy the OEM, zbs. Triscan 8710 11111 do the job

Bottom end of the struts(Car side) Screw out the original one and screw in the big BMW nut
Upper end(the hood) Drill out the original nut from the edge piece, match the smaller BMW nut with a 6mm screw together and screw them in the the edge piece, place the thing back to the hood
                Ready

I got a set for my hood and hatch from rock auto. pretty good job of support. it amazes me how long the Nissan ones actually last.

                  Bon

I've had the Boxi supports on my 89 since May 2017, still working. They are currently $18.99 for the pair (I paid $21 when I got them). You have to drill out the rivets on your brackets and switch them over to the ball stud style to use them if you haven't already done it.

I've had the Monroe 901329 since Sep 2016, still working. They are currently $16.93 per strut, so $33.86 for two (I paid $7.61 a piece as Addon Items when I got them). You have to drill out the rivets on your brackets and switch them over to the ball stud style to use them if you haven't already done it.
