  • Lost horsepower....

Im getting a lot of misfires when I accelerate the engine. When its idle, runs smooth and hears good, no mecanical problems. I've checked the ignition and the fuel filter, and nothing. Gasoline is 93 octane and Castrol Syntec 20W-50(just in case). I suspect that is the MAF. Any suggestions please?

Could be anything. Check codes, try another maf, etc. A spare maf is always good to have.

            Right

The problem its not the gasoline. The thing is Im getting a lot of misfires when I accelerate the engine, like I said before. The timing is good, performance cables, spark plugs, distributor cap and the rotor are new. Dammit, genuine MAF cost 475$....

Yeah, most likely your MAF. Run codes like Chuck said.

On a side note, you might want to reword your sig.

mine did that when the intake piping came lose after the maf. i had a major loss of power as well and horrible miss firing, just like you stated.

check that you don't have any vacuum leaks. i'm willing to bet you do.

                  Resolved...

I adjusted clockwise the idle mixture ratio in the MAF. Now the mixture is more rich, and I have zero misfires and more response. Lets see what happen the next few months...

Funny things with these mafs, some have screws and some don't.

                      Still...

Next day: I still have HALF of the problem, and I think its not the MAF. I better start looking more deep in the engine: dirty injectors, lifters, spark plugs or the fuel filter. I've checked vacuum lines and everything is good. Spark plug cables are new. MAF and intake are good.

I had an issue like that a few years ago.
I ended up only having to reset the ecu.

Really? How do I reset the ecu?

BTW, I had plans to buy a Jim Wolf Tech ECU for my Z31(84, NA, MT)...

Well it most likely wont help, but it couldn't hurt.
Disconnect the batt for a few minutes.

                              is your maf in backwards???

i've done that before. i put the intake back together really quick and wasn't paying attention. ops: and it ran like crap.
