  • 88 na to 84 turbo -- running problem

    Hello

Im trying to figure the bug out my turbo swap and its giving me some trouble.. anyway here the facts.

    * Its a 88 NA car with a 84 turbo setup(injector-ecu-turbo). I kept my 88 harness.

    * The problem is that the car barely run with the 84 turbo ECU(running on 3 cylinders or 4,spark plug are wet with fuel)

    * ecu didnt give any trouble code.

When i start the car with the 88 NA ecu, everything sounds normal... I didnt drive the car with the NA Ecu.

Well i looked at some pinout on the net(z31.com) and here what i found

    84 turbo pinout
    101 G.......Injector #1
    102 G/B...Injector #2
    103 G/L...Injector #3
    104 G/Y...Injector #4
    105 G/R...Injector #5
    106 G/W..Injector #6

    86 pinout
( im pretty sure its the same of a 88 ecu)
    101 G.......Injector #1
    102 G/B.....Injector #2(T) Injector #3 (NA)
    103 G/L.....Injector #3(T), Injector #5 (NA)
    104 G/Y.....Injector #4(T), Injector #2 (NA)
    105 G/R.....Injector #5(T), Injector #4 (NA)
    106 G/W.....Injector #6

Looking at this, maybe i can just redo the wiring at the ECU plug to replace the injectors wiring in the same pattern as the 84. ?

Just want some insigth before i start chopping the harness...

    thanks for your help.

Do you have a post recall harness? did they "fix" the original injectors?

The reason I ask is I belive the recall makes them fire batch. If this is the case then I wouldnt think that it would matter the order it fires.

Humm, i really dont know ...
I will call nissan on monday to ask what recall they did to the car. Anyway its not that urgent its gonna rain for 4-5 days around here.. cant work..
      i dont have a garage :

if the recall wasnt not made the firing order would need to be corrected..well the harness side.

          I rewired the injectors today.

Now the 84 ECU run better when i give some throttle but its backfire a lot.
at idle (below 1200 its a litlle sluggish but up after that it clears up and run fine.

The NA Ecu still run like a champ idle is perfect vacuum is at 20 and no misfire under throttle.

Im at lost i will buy a newer turbo ecu like 86 .. maybe it will solve the problem. If you have any idea just reply.. i would like to have my car running before the first snow fall so i can drive it to storage for winter !

          thanks for your help

this really sounds like you have N/A injectors. If you kept the harness did the connectors fit right over the injectors or did you have to modify the injector harness? if it fit then you got ripped off and someone sold you N/A injectors. A turbo ECU on N/A injectors will cause a lean condition.

Did all of the parts come off of the same car?
            Funny stories!

Nop , i needed to modify connectors to fit.
I bought the kit some time ago.
I dont know if the part were all from the same car.

Im running with no Idle Regulator and emmision stuff. I know it doesnt help with my idle but this would not make the car run sluggish only with the turbo Ecu. I bought a used 86 turbo ecu , i will try it when i receive it.

I used a knife to remove the small edge on the injectors where the connector plug.

i recently put a 84T into my 87NA,and the NA injectors wires clipped right into the 84T injectors no problem!
im running into problems myself! it seems that Injector #2 is leaking fuel again! i just dont get it! this will be the 2nd time my injectors are leaking and melting!
