  • Car wont start only starter clicks when attempting to start

    Congrats on your site Chris,

I turn the ignition key to start the car and all I hear is a click from the starter. I took the starter out the starter is good I put power to it and it works like it's suppose to work. It's not the starter it's good. I got a new batter so it's not the batter or the posts. All wires are making good contact and corrosion free. The contacts on the starter is good. Maybe this can help you figure it out cause I cant. When I put the battery charger on the battery and the volts on the batter with the car off is around 15-16v I crank it and it starts right up. To start my car right now I have a switch with +- connected to the starter. I leave the car in the ON position while the fuel pump is pumping and I press the switch button gives direct power to the starter and the car starts right up. If you can help me out it will be greatly appreciated.

This is more of a repair topic suited to Z31.com.

Sounds like it's probably your started solenoid or the assocuated wiring.

        That or bad battery connection.

It is not recommended to confirm proper installation by driving into walls or other barriers as this could cause personal injury or damage to the vehicle.

He mentioned right in the post that he checked both of those. I guess check and recheck is in order.

If the starter is good, and the new batter(y) is good, then it is the wiring or your engine is bound up somehow.

Now you state the engine will start fine after having charged the battery. That makes me think the battery is not as good as you would think.
But then you state it starts fine with this auxillary switch so I would tend to think you have a problem with the ignition switch or wiring.

Dude it sounds like you are giving conflicting information or you stuff is fuxored. You might want to revisit the post and clarify things or seek profesional help.
