VOTE: Choose your new forum software!

Donation money was going to be used to purchase vBulletin owned license for our forum. If you didn't already know, this would offer us massive advantage over the phpbb software we already have. Especially on the admin/mod end. I have deleted over 100 spam users in the last month alone.

I was just thinking… it's your forum so I should put it to your vote before just buying it and commencing the switchover.

From our perspective there is little advantage to switching from phpbb to vbulletin. But on your end there is a huge difference.

I used to have a copy of vbulletin around here if you wanted to try things out on your own. But paying for it is a must since their support is pretty decent.

Pros and cons to either I suppose.

Free goes a long way with me but then there is the ole clause "you get what you pay for" and there is something to be said for paid support.

I'm not that familiar with vBulletin but more so with IPB and phpBB.

Supposedly though phpBB3 is not that far off on the horizon now and there are reported to be many, many improvements over phpBB2. Especially on the administrative side.

Unless you're just in a serious rush to make the change over you might give it a shot first.

The drawback being if you didn't like it then you'd have to transition again.

Just my cent and a half as I don't think my opinion was worth the full $0.02 tonight.

I'm just wondering what you will do with all the old posts on this board, I guess just lock everything and archive it? unless there is a way to move posts from a phpbb database to vB easily

You should definitely try SMF before buying VB license.

It's almost as good as VB, but it's FREE.
We have been using SMF hense beta version and never had any problems.

phpBB sql can be converted to SMF.

After much investigation, phpbb3 looks like the best alternative. Changing to wait mode…
