    windsheild parts

I want to have the windshield resealed. Trim is kinda wonky looking and bad fitting so I figure I will probably need everything. Has anyone done this to their Z? Did you just replace everything? Also did you have a pro window fitter install it or a body shop?

I just had the bronze windshield on my 84T replaced at Safelite auto glass.
I went with the OEM style seal rather than the aftermarket universal seal that eliminates the metal trim.

There is the plastic spacer (72825-01P00) that surrounds the seal. Over time, that shrinks at
the corners and creates a gap between the body and the seal. It doesn't leak water, it just looks bad.
I had thought it would be replaced with the new windshield…nope.

When i get the windshield on my AE done, i'll order the spacer and have it replaced.

The plastic spacer is just the retainer that the clips on the back of the trim snaps into. You can get away with retaining the factory seal if you remove the windshield carefully. You have to buy new clips for the windshield trim, I believe the pack is like 15 bucks. It has absolutely nothing to do with sealing the windshield, it just holds the trim pieces on. You can technically get away with leaving it off if you dont mind it looking funny. The windshield will not leak without it.

The retainer can be had for around 60 bucks from the dealer last I checked.

So was anyones trim parts warped or didn't fit right? I don't need to get those all as a safety measure?

The retainer strip pushing out is what makes them warp. The trim pieces as long as you are careful pulling them off should be straight. I used a razor knife to cut the underside of the clips so I could just have it fall off without bending it at all.

If they are bent you can get them later. Technically you can drive without the trim piece until you get a replacement. You just gotta clean the dirt out of the groove before you install it to make sure the retainer holds the clips tight.

Also if you're careful the trim slides together in certain areas, so if you're careful you can remove it one piece at a time.

yeah, i've been driving without mine having been installed yet. I need to get them powerdercoated as they are badly peeling.

Amreboot found a paint that pretty well is spot on for the original "charcoal" color of the trim on the SS. I have a can from duplicolor sitting on my bench for mine. Given that the can was like 10 bucks, I plan on painting all of my trim and mirrors with it. Powdercoating would be cool, but I have the feeling it wouldn't be the right color.
