Analog to Digital Conversion?
I have searched and searched and can come up with a bunch of topics for Digital to analog but not vise versa. Has anyone successfully done this swap? If so what all is required to make this swap complete. I want to leave the analog climate controls but I want my digital cluster and center gauges back. Thank you all for you help. The Herd

you may as well just buy a digital z31, the swap includes swapping of interior harnesses and misc parts inside the cab, under the hood like fuel pump., oil switch, boost sensor etc.
by the time you have all of the parts you will pretty much have another z. -

I already have a complete digital gll that was wrecked. I picked up the same year and color car just has analog gauges. The Herd

Ok probably more than this but swap out complete electrical harness inside engine bay and interior. From fuel sending unit to maf. Install boost sensor fuel sending unit oil switch on block speedo setup including the wire from the speed sensor in the transmission, not sure about climate control/stock radio. -

It's unlikely you will find anyone here who has done this conversion. Digital dash cars are problematic. While they have that 80's Star War appeal, many find its not worth the time troubleshooting problems to keep them working. In defense of the digital dash, I have a good working one in my 89 Turbo and out of the many Z31"s I've owned a few digital cars had everything working. I much prefer the analog dash.
Since Wildbill seems to have disappeared, there isn't anyone else that has stepped up to do complete digital dash repairs.

The involves the exact opposite of a manual swap, doesn't that just make sense? No underwood harness swap, sensor swap etc. Well besides the speed sensor. Have I done or seen it done, no. It would stand to reason whatever you remove /change to go manual you would install into your manual to digital quest.
Ohhh and Tim, there is a guy on ebay that preforms the services.Hmmm, Whats next?

I have just done this on an 86 converted from GL to GLL a full and complete swap for the digi dash, radio and auto climate control.
And the best part is it all works!.. a lot of work though. I wouldn't recommend it to most people but if you have any questions let me know. Note i didn't change the engine bay harness just added the missing wires for the speed sensor, ambient temp sensor and there is 1 wire different for the vacuum pump as well -

I might as well mention that this required the following…
GLL main body harness
GLL engine bay harness
GLL console harness
GLL instrument harness
GLL auto a/c climate harnesses there are multiple sub harnesses
all the auto a/c sensors including sun sensor and ambient temp sensor etc etc
digital dash and power supply
GLL digital fuel gauge sender unit
GLL radio
GLL dash tweeters that bolt to the underside of the dash
radio amp which goes under the passenger seat
metal tray under the passenger side carpet which the radio amp screws to
GLL steering wheel
GLL steering wheel control receiver
2 DIN cables to connect radio to amp under passenger seat and steering wheel control receiver
GLL auto a/c blower unit
GLL auto a/c heater diverter unit
GLL water temp switch in engine bay
digital speed sensor
GLL speedo cable and sleeve
firewall gromet for covering the hole left by removing the GL speedo cable
GLL steering switchs for windshield wiper and turn signals as the base is different
the steering column cover differs as a result as well
all of the backlighting changes from orange to green
this included the green bulb cover for the auto trans shifter backlighing
GLL headliner and the cover for the temp sensor at the head (roof) level
Compass direction sensor
compass amplifier which goes in the rear hatch
the digital centre gauge pods for compass and boost gauge
this can include switching the cloth seats to leather
it also can consist of changing the seat belts as the GLL has a connector for a retractor ( i didnt bother with these)
of note it is not necessary to change out the a/c unit if it still is charged with freon
It is necessary to have the Auto a/c unit as you will need the GLL diode off of that unit as well as the A/C relay which is different from the one on the bottom of the GL unit
i'm sure i missed a few things but as i said its a long process and of course finding everything in good working condition is getting harder and harder -

That "80's Star Wars appeal" comment sucks. :-?
The wicked cool digital instrumentation is one of the things that makes the Z31 stand out from the crowd. I hate the lame analog gauges - you might as well have bought a 3rd gen Supra.Zoey - 1987 Z31T GLL - HKS EVC / CM SS 3" turbo-back / Stance GR+

I haz the Star Wars cluster in my 1994 Sentra via NX1600. It makes the S13 fanbois jelly when they see it as they want it in their drift missles.

I have a 85 red gll that everything works great in. Just severe frame damage and left front wheel and strut ripped off. Still runs great and everything works. I plan on putting it in my 85 red gl but keeping the analog a/c. Only thing keeping me from it is experience and the fact that this cars interior is mint. The Herd
