    Speedo cable screwed up

I recently put in a new Southbend Stage 2 Endurance clutch on my 1986 300zx turbo (flywheel was '87-'89 so maybe a W series motor?)

Anywho, upon reattaching the speedo cable to the rear of the transmission, it was difficult for the threads to get started and while messing with it I accidentally pulled the plastic end piece out a little bit. I found that I could basically pull the entire cable out through its jacket if I wanted to. I figured shit I have to pull the cable from behind the combi-meter now and mess with it, but I turned it on the trans end and pressed in and it recessed back into its place, as if it seated correctly, and then I proceeded to mount it to the transmission.

Alas, I have no working speedometer now. Upon further inspection by the transmission last night I realized the external metal ring (the male threaded part where the cable screws onto) is able to spin with the speedo cable female threaded part. This makes it difficult to tighten, but still, is this supposed to happen?

This description may not be very clear unless you can see for yourself (i'll try and snap a pic later) but hopefully if anyone knows about this thing I can describe anything that doesn't make sense in better detail and get my speedo working again

He probably lost that keyed dowel when disassembling

The speedo cable has a little pin on a spring, it screws into the speed sensor, if you aren't careful it can fly out…

Because the motor is an 88T motor....I knew it was a swapped motor but I wasn't sure what year it was

The odometer is not working, there is not much fluid leaking through the cable, but some. The connection is screwed up but I don't know why yet. The connection on the trans looks kind of cracked, ill try and get a pic of it later
