Installing Isis short throw shifter V2
I have a 87 na 5 speed and I just purchased this shifter from enjuku racing
http://www.enjukuracing.com/products…ce-%2A%2A.html
I've been told this is the correct shifter for the transmission I should have as long as nothing has been changed. I've seen this shifter mentioned in several threads and was just wondering if anyone has any tips or experienced any problems when installing this shifter. I have noticed a couple of people mention the bushing on the bottom of the shaft being a bit to big and needing a little sanding.
Any help here is greatly appreciated -

Just soak the old bushing in very hot water, wrap it in a rag (so as not to burn yourself and also get a better grip)
and slip it off the old yoke and then while it's still warm, slip it onto the yoke of the new shifter. A heatgun also works but hot water is easier to access .
Re-lube the bushing with silicone grease like NAPA sylglide or similiar.
edit:
I did a write-up here:

I saw your write up and it did help with some of my questions. It looks like your write up is for the original style or the 1st version. The one I have is assembled so I will have to remove the entire shifter. I know you said to remove the bushing from the old shifter. This one has a bushing already there. Would I be better off using the original bushing or use the new bushing on the shifter. Also I have been reading up and I know on the s13/s14 the top two bolts are covered by the transmission tunnel. Will I run into the same issue here as well.
I hate to sound dumb but I'd rather ask questions first so I don't f*** something up later -

Those install docs are for installing a FS5W71C (240sx/z31 NA) short throw shifter on a FS5R30A. Since you are installing a FS5W71C shifter on a FS5W71C, all you need to do is remove the 6 bolts, removed the stock shifter, and bolt on the new one. As far as reaching the bolts.... put a jack under trans, remove 4 bolts on the trans mount, and left the trans down. It will sag down and give you the room you need to get at the bolts with a wrench from top or bottom. -

Xpress, thanks for posting up where to get the shifter, I had a B&M on my 240SX and loved it. I ran into the same issue as you about how to get the 2 front bolts. I bought a set of ratcheting wrenches, jacked the car up, and was able to reach over the transmission to tighten those two bolts. I'm guessing the Z31 will be the same. Good luck and do a writeup of this shifter install! -

I'm going to pull the console out in the morning and I'll take some pictures and post a write up when I'm done. Hopefully every thing will go smoothly. One thing I am going to do is replace the bushing that comes with the shifter with a new oem bushing from nissan. I was talking to a friend that knows a couple of people that have used the isis shifter. They recomened changing the bushing because th oem seemed like it was made out of a harder material -

Ok I'm confused. Xpress did you read Z_Karma's original post with the instructions? http://z31performance.com/showthread…hlight=shifter
Parker said:"The B&M shifter won't work for this application. It comes with its own shifter plate and the bolt holes won't line up to the Z31-flavoured 30A. For that matter, it looks like any kit that comes with its own shifter plate won't work, so the ISIS V2 and Megan Racing V2 are out as well."
So I'm not sure if your Isis V2 will work. Can you let us know if the bolt holes for the plate line up with your trans? -

I had someone check and they are almost 100% sure I have the original FS5W71C so everything should line up perfectly. My main concern was getting to the bolt holes but like Michaelp said he had no problems getting to the bolts. -

Sorry, I didn't realize that the transmission on the Turbo's changed to the FS5R30A in 87. So, it looks like an Isis or B&M is in my future. -

Bolts can be gotten from in the car like mike p said. No big deal. Make sure you carefully scrape away the old paper gasket and install a new one or use rtv to prevent leakage. And be careful, the edges on the trans where the shifter mounts are sharp. -

When you're working on those shifter plate bolts, you might want to wear mechanics' gloves beacause the transmission tunnel cutout has sharp edges you can cut your hand on if you're not careful and the wrench slips.Zoey - 1987 Z31T GLL - HKS EVC / CM SS 3" turbo-back / Stance GR+
