    Ignition Coil Question

Hey guys, I had a question that I was curious about and couldn't seem to find any answer to. Over on HybridZ several people seem to talk about the Z31 coil being one of the hottest/best Nissan has ever produced. Then I've seen it mentioned that there is a difference between the N/A and Turbo coils. I can't find anything on this, but I have seen that the Z31s have two part numbers for the coils. The earlier and later style. I actually own both of these. Just haven't wired them up to my car yet. Then I see any of the later RSB-07 CAS cars like the Pathfinder and Quest use a coil almost exactly the same as the later Z31s, but the part number looks to be different. So I'm really just curious if anyone has experimented with any of the coils or has any actual info on it. Not sure how much difference there would be between any of these coils. Currently I'm running a Blaster II coil with the old 280ZXT transistor. I have everything I need and will be swapping over to the PRW-2 transistor and Z31 coil. Judging by what people say I should definitely see some improvements.

I don't know about internally, but I know the plug changed at some point. The one on the 88 I looked at in the junkyard was different than the one on my 86. It was the same as the plug on a Maxima coil I looked at.

No difference in coils between turbo or non. Only difference is the plug on the 88/89's as mentioned above, otherwise the coil is the same. And yes, they are regarded as having a very high discharge (not sure of actual number) and extremely durable. Commonly used on very high HP engines without issue…
